THE DANCER
Lotus Niraja is a professional Middle Eastern dance artist specializing in Modern, Urban Egyptian Belly Dance and Raks Sharqi. She is internationally recognized for her dance style, dramatic energy, vibrant interpretation and technique. Her dance style is serious fun, infused with glamour and style! Lotus teaches workshops nationally and internationally and has been featured on many DVDs. Admired for her modern, yet passionately Arabic approach to Belly Dance, Lotus features classical and contemporary movement, haute couture costumes designed exclusively by MAZ , and a love for a performance well done!
THE INSTRUCTOR
Lotus is widely recognized for her dance style, dramatic energy, vibrant interpretation and technique. Known for her drum solos and shimmy technique, her dance style is dynamic, infused with glamour and style! Lotus teaches Belly Dance classes and offers private lessons as well as national and international workshops. In her classes and workshops, Lotus combines elegance and fluidity, sharp and crisp movement technique with stage dynamics and audience participation in order to help the student give a polished theatrical performance. She offers an extensive library of workshop topics including Raks Modern, the Art of Belly-o-graphy, Raks Sabor, the Icing on the Drum Solo, Egyptian Style Dance Boot camp and Shimmilicious Shimmies.
THE BUSINESS
In addition, Lotus is the Artistic Executive Director and a Principal Choreographer of the award winning The NDC (The Niraja Dance Company). Lotus and The NDC have been featured on DVDs such as Suzy Evans' IAMED series, the By Dancers for Dancers series by Michelle Joyce's Cheeky Girls Productions and in numerous print and online magazines such as Zaghareet, the Chronicles, Shimmy magazine and iShimmy.com.

Belly Dance is my passion! My classes are now designed to share this beautiful and empowering dance form with you. During my haitus from teaching locally, I am proud to share how I have changed my teaching style to create and nurture better dancers. You are invited to join me on an incredible journey. Learn the principles and movements of authentic Egyptian-style belly dance as well as the history of one of the oldest documented dance forms. Learn to be a dancer, not a technician.
Each class is 60 minutes.
LN Belly Dance I - Beginner/Novice/Explorer
Students will learn not only core foundations of Belly Dance, they will also learn the art of enjoying the dance in its natural, organic, fun and explorative form. Classes include technique breakdown, shimmies, isolations, traveling steps, beautiful arms undulations, and acceptance of self. Leave the class feeling empowered and confident. The class requires no prior dance or belly dance experience.
LN Belly Dance II - Intermediate/Hobbyist/Higher Learner/Progessive
In this level 2 class, progress into classical and contemporary Belly Dance technique. Understand more advanced movement that includes layering, intricate patterns, theatrical expression, and combinations. Build technique while maintaining natural, organic dance movement. Discover muscle memory and strengthen relevant muscles used for belly dance. Progressive dancing and drills to challenge you!
LN Belly Dance III - Advanced/Performer/Dynamic Dance/Own the Stage!
Graduate this class and discover your personal dance style. Intense, thought-provoking to think outside of your dance box. This is a dynamic class that will build on your current foundation and release you into a journey, discovering your own dancer SELF!

Register here to sign up for Belly Dance Classes. Your tuition can be paid by cash, check, credit or debit card, or paypal. Class registrations are non-refundable. Drop in rate is $20 per class. Classes can be taken one at a time, 9 or 18 week sessions. If signing up for a session, you will receive a individual class card. Please bring this card with you to class each time. If you are registering after the start of the session the tuition will be prorated at the drop in rate.

SPECIAL EVENT PRICES: Parties begin at $225-$400 for 15-20 minutes per show (depending on level of performance service). Weddings begin at $350 for basic wedding performance. Please contact Lotus for details with the form above.

This trip is specifically for those who find New York City intimidating, but would love to shop and source items for your costuming needs. We have designed this tour to give you an interactive immersion experience. If you ever want to go back on your own, you will have the guide and the tools to do so after this trip. From the beginning of the tour you will travel as a "pro" doing business, shopping in NYC. These tours have been designed to assist you how to conquer New York shopping with ease! ** Please note: We will be using public transportation during the tour. This tour requires a significant amount of walking. It is important that participants are able to walk a half mile at a moderate pace, be comfortable with crowds, and climb several flights of stairs.
**Bring: a small rolling luggage piece or knapsack, energy snacks such as fruit or protein bars, comfortable walking shoes, cellphone and AC charger, a camera, CASH to spend! (Most places prefer cash for the best deals).
Departure Information - Baltimore's White Marsh Park & Ride (Near IKEA in White Marsh) at 7:30AM. Arrive in NYC at 10:45AM. Return to Baltimore 8:30PM New York. Arrive back to Baltimore at 11:50PM.
